82% of small business owners that use vision boards from the start meet over half their goals. You are in the business of YOU (and your family). Chances are you WILL benefit from creating a goal setting vision board too.
I’ve been making vision boards for years. And as a Life Coach, I have hosted vision board classes and encouraged clients to visually present their goals.
It’s important to create vision boards to help focus our ideas and to remind us of our goals. Over 65% of the population is made up of visual learners. By creating a vision board, you can process the information more effectively, and placing it on the wall keeps it in the forefront of your mind.

Put Emphasis on Goals and Feelings Vs. Things
Sure, we all want things. One of my first visualization as a young woman was a red convertible. I was determined to earn money to buy this car—and I did.
Having an image of my dream car helped motivate me and focus my priorities to reach this goal. But in today’s social media society it is easy to see superstars and influencers with luxurious clothes, cars, and homes.
As an influencer myself, I genuinely love the products and places I promote, but I never want my readers to feel a fear-of-missing-out (FOMO).
Things can make our life easier and more fun, but they won’t make us happy in the long run.
When I collect imagery for mood boards or a goal setting vision board, I focus more on the feeling vs. the thing. For example, instead of a picture of that fancy car use an image of a person driving a car. Focus on how having or driving that car will make you feel i.e. freedom, success, or fun.
These feelings will lead you to other goals that will help you gain these sensations.

Set Actionable Goals
One of my favorite goal setting vision board tips is to set actionable goals. Chances are you will generate a lot of ideas, but you can’t simply expect these things and feelings to come to you.
Visualizing isn’t enough.
In the end, you will need to put in the work to make something happen. You will need to set actionable goals that will help you reach these outcomes.
For example, you may want to get that dream car, so a goal may be to increase your income for a big down payment. You can make this actionable goal happen by increasing your work hours, getting a better-paying job, or taking on a side hustle.
Another example may be that you want to write a book. You could set a goal to write a minimum of 500 words a day.
Whatever your dreams are on your vision board, make sure to visually display a plan on how to get there.
Don’t Be Afraid of Change
With a goal setting vision board comes change. You want to change the situation in your life and you will need to change behaviors to reach these goals.
But as you progress in your goal setting vision board journey, you may reach a goal and need a new one, you may have a life-changing experience (like having a child), or your dreams may simply change as you grow as a person. Any of these reasons may warrant a change in your vision board.
Don’t be afraid to make changes to your goal setting vision board. Just like your life, your vision board will develop and grow.
Make Your Goal Setting Vision Board a Reality
Focusing on feelings, setting actionable goals, and mentally preparing for change are only three pieces of a much bigger puzzle. I hope these goal setting vision board tips help you on your way, but some people need a little more.
