Do you start the year with big goals and dreams, but find that you often end up feeling stuck or left behind? Are you tired of falling short of your goals and feeling like you’ve failed? Although falling can often feel painful and messy, there is a big difference between falling and failing, and today I’m diving into a powerful reframe to help you start to see that falling can often be a powerful part of the journey towards achieving your goals.

In this episode, I discuss:
- A recent video I saw of a race where one of the runners tripped and fell, hitting the ground hard. In that moment, she had every reason to give up but instead she got back up and pushed herself harder than ever and ended up coming in second place – that’s the kind of resilience I want in my life.
- Falling forward and how we can use the momentum from a fall to push us ahead and fuel us, instead of letting it hold us back
- How falling isn’t failing – yes, it can feel messy and painful, but the fall is not the end of the story. It’s a part of the process. Failing is a mindset and is internal, whereas falling is when we decide that the fall defines us, and is when we choose not to get back up.
- The beauty of pivoting after a fall, seeing this as a strategic move towards your goals, rather than seeing it as a failure. When something doesn’t work, look for the next step you can take.
- How to shift our mindset so that we see falls as falls forward, instead of reasons to give up.
- Some practical steps on how to use a fall to propel you forwards, rather than letting it hold you back:-
- Acknowledge the fall; falling can hurt, but denying that it ever happened can hold you back.
- Reframe the fall; every fall holds a lesson, so ask yourself, “Wwat can I learn from this?” Maybe it’s a reminder to slow down, ask for help, or try a new approach.
- Focus on one step at a time. Don’t worry about the entire race—just take the next step. Progress is built through small, consistent actions.
- Lean into your community and surround yourself with people who lift you up. Share your struggles and goals with trusted friends or mentors who will remind you of your potential.
- Celebrate small wins – every step forward is a victory so no matter how small, celebrate it!
And I want to celebrate with you too! We are all going to fall at times in our lives, as it’s part of the process, so if this year hasn’t quite gone your way, use it to propel you forward, pivot, and keep moving forward.
