There are certain rooms that completely surprise you. When we first walked through The Mountain View Lodge, this bedroom definitely wasn’t one of the selling points. It had old flooring, duel closets that made the room feel cramped, and it just… lacked personality.
We knew it had potential, but it was going to take some imagination (and a lot of work) to get there. Today it’s a favorite room in the cabin. It’s still evolving (because aren’t all our homes?), but adding this beautiful Yechen solid oak bed frame was one of those upgrades that instantly made the room feel more intentional.

What This Room Looked Like Before
When we bought the cabin, this bedroom felt dark and dated. The bulky closets took up valuable space, the flooring had seen better days, and nothing about the room reflected the peaceful mountain retreat we wanted guests to experience.
So we started dreaming. Not about making it fancy. About making it feel calm and comfortable.
Like the kind of room you’d actually want to wake up in while drinking coffee and looking out at the mountains.
The Transformation
Little by little, we completely changed the room.
the progress we made:
- Removed the oversized closets to open the space.
- Installed new flooring.
- Added board and batten walls.
- Painted everything a rich, calming green.
- Installed a beautiful mountain landscape mural that immediately became the focal point of the room.
- Updated the lighting and décor.
Every project made the room feel more intentional. But one thing still wasn’t quite right.
The One Thing We Still Needed
We had actually already replaced the original bed that came with the cabin.
We chose a black metal bed frame that looked beautiful in the space, and for a while, it worked well. But over time, it started to bend, became noisy every time someone rolled over, and just wasn’t holding up the way we hoped.
Since we use the cabin ourselves and also welcome guests throughout the year, we knew it was time to invest in something that was built to last.
We wanted a bed that felt solid, stayed quiet, and fit the warm, natural style of the room.

One of the first things that caught my attention was how beautifully simple it is. The clean oak design fits perfectly with the cozy mountain style we were creating without competing with the wallpaper or other details in the room. But the design isn’t the only reason we chose it. Assembly was unbelievably easy. I don’t say this often about furniture… This was honestly one of the easiest pieces we’ve ever put together.
Instead of dozens of screws and bags of hardware, the Yechen bed uses traditional Japanese-inspired dovetail joinery. The pieces simply lock together without tools, and most people can assemble it in around 10 minutes. There were no confusing instructions. No searching for the right screwdriver. No leftover mystery parts. Everything fit together exactly the way it should.
Built for a Quiet Night’s Sleep
The biggest reason we replaced our old frame? Noise.
When you’re staying somewhere to relax, the last thing you want is a bed that creaks every time you move. The solid oak construction combined with the interlocking dovetail joints creates an incredibly sturdy frame that’s designed to eliminate wobbling and squeaking. That was exactly what we wanted for both our family and every guest who stays here.
No Box Spring Needed
Another feature I loved is that the platform includes solid wooden slats, so there’s no need for a box spring.
The mattress sits directly on the slats, giving plenty of support while keeping the clean, low-profile look we wanted in the room.
The frame also provides 11 inches of clearance underneath, which is perfect if you ever want extra storage.
The Finished Room
Looking back at where this room started almost doesn’t feel real.
What was once a dated bedroom has become one of the coziest places in the cabin.
The green walls, mountain mural, warm wood tones, soft bedding, and now this beautiful oak bed frame all work together to create exactly the feeling we hoped guests would have: A place to slow down. Sleep well. And wake up surrounded by the mountains.

We’re Still Not Finished…
One of my favorite things about this cabin is that it’s always evolving.
We still have a few more ideas planned for this room (I can’t wait to share those), but seeing these before-and-after photos reminds me that transformation rarely happens all at once.
It’s built one project at a time. One weekend at a time. One thoughtful decision after another.
And that’s what makes the finished space feel so meaningful.
