Making your own homemade bedtime linen spray is affordable and easy to do, which is great in itself, but the benefits are what really got me into creating my own spray to relax me (and my little ones!!) while I refresh my linens!
Of course, the scent is something that has always been relaxing to me… candles have been a long time favorite, and diffusing the right blends is like a daily goal for me, but a quick spray of my sheets before I climb into bed helps to scent the room, calm me for bed and gives the added benefits of aromatherapy!
Plus it’s just important to know that rest can improve your health and wellbeing. A good night’s sleep is the starting point for resisting germs and viruses, easing stress, and losing weight.
Why wouldn’t we want a Bedtime Linen Spray to help us get the rest we need?
Just spritz a light mist on your pillow and sheets before climbing into bed and you’re just one step closer to a good night’s sleep.
What makes this homemade Bedtime Linen Spray so effective is because it uses a blend of essential oils that helps to relax you in so many different ways, from stress, a busy mind, restless muscles, and more…
Lavender Essential Oil can help balance emotions. It will refresh your linens, promote relaxation and can also reduce anxiety, and support sleep.
Wild Orange Essential Oil can be very bright and yet it’s soothing and also reduces stress and anxiety.
Cedarwood Essential Oil (before pregnancy, this was like my all-natural Ambien) has a very grounding and calming effect and can tend to calm and quiet the mind to allow for a more restful sleep.
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil helps to relax muscles and reduce stress.
Of course, the best thing about creating a homemade linen spray is that you can use the oils that work best for you or oils that appeal to your senses. All you really need are an essential oil or two (or four – like the ones listed here for my ultimate recipe for relaxation, plus they’re great for diffusing), some distilled water, and a dark bottle with a spray top (to prevent UV sunlight from destroying the oil’s effectiveness).
It is important to also add a pinch of Epsom Salt because it helps to disperse the oil into the water since oil and water don’t mix together on their own.
What you’ll need:
2-4oz. Cobalt or Amber Glass Spray Bottle
Wild Orange Essential Oil or Bergamot Essential Oil
Lavender Essential Oil*
Cedarwood Essential Oil*
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil*
Pinch of Epsom Salt
Distilled or Purified Water
Just add about 5-10 drops of each oil to the bottle, add in epsom salt and top with water. Shake well to mix and enjoy!
*These oils should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy… which is the great thing about creating your own spray, you can tailor it to your own needs! After the first trimester, you can add in Lavender and Roman Chamomile, however, it’s recommended to avoid Cedarwood all throughout pregnancy.
These oils are all considered safe for children over 2 years and a light spray on their sheets (we’re not trying to soak the linens here, just a light mist) can be useful to promote more restful sleep for your little ones.

I had never thought to use (or even make) a linen spray. Sounds like something I need to try. Thanks for sharing the tutorial!

Thanks for the linen spray recipe, but how many drops of each oil did you use? thanks!!
Tabitha Blue says
Hi sue!! I just updated the post 😉 I would start with 5-10 drops of each oil, lower when using more oils, and more of each when only using a couple of oils. You can always adjust to your preference too! This is just a starting point! I like the citrus and lavender fragrance more, so I use a little more of those, and a little less of the Cedarwood based on my own preference 🙂 Enjoy it!
