With every new season, I seem to get the itch to clean up, clean out and spend a little time refreshing our home – but no season more than Spring. This year though, early in pregnancy with twins, I had a hard time keeping any kind of food down, let alone finding the strength to purge a closet. Now with Summer right on our heels, I’ve been in the Spring refresh and cleaning mode and dirt seems to be more visible than ever before.
Thankfully it doesn’t take much to spring refresh your home… or really for ANY season, and we’ve got a few ways to get you started. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel and your home will shine and feel completely refreshed!

Six Simply Effective Ways to Spring Refresh Your Home
1. Do Some Spring Cleaning… Get Kids Involved
While this post isn’t all about spring cleaning, sometimes the need to tidy up is inevitable. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a Saturday afternoon tackling a project or two that’s been on your list. One thing I’ve realized raising four little ones (so far) is that kids like to be involved, and we love letting them help! It doesn’t always feel like it makes the tasks easier, but if you can find ways to get those little helping hands included, it can make the whole process more enjoyable for everyone… and everyone seems to take better ownership of a space. This means that up-keep is easier because everyone worked together to get it nice and sparkling clean, and feels the drive to keep it that way.
I’m working on a post all about fun ways to get kids involved, but really, it’s finding projects that they can do on their own. I know you’ve heard it too, “I can do it!” So parents, let them do it… with you.
One thing we’ve been working on is taking care of the additions we’ve been making to our new home, like our wood floors. Beautiful wood floors may be designed for life but they aren’t always cared for, for life. From our little one’s attempts at feeding themselves, to soccer practice and chasing our kittens around the house, floors experience a lot of life and usually, there’s little time to clean them – let alone figure out the right way to care for them.
We like to have an easy vacuum and mop available, because it’s one thing that ALL of us can take turns using, and it’s one of those tasks I constantly hear, “I can do it!”

2. Toss It
What extra items do you have lurking in your space that you can donate or toss? I’m sure there is a countertop that feels cluttered or maybe a closet that is overflowing? The main thing here is finding a few items to toss because it will help you free up space and declutter for the season.
And speaking of tossing it, we’ve got a list for you of five things in your home you need to throw away right now!
3. Change the Linens
In the Spring and Summer months, stash the heavier linens, chunky knits and fur throws for lighter fabrics. The bed is a great place to start, but you don’t have don’t stop there. Add a touch of blush or other pastels by switching out pillows, towels, kitchen towels, and more.
In fact, while we’re on the subject of pastels, they are always trending in these warmer months, and bring a bit of cheer into the home making it feel airy and open as we incorporate those colors into the design. A few art prints or accessory swaps on open shelves, countertops, and coffee tables can totally change the look of a room and help refresh your home for the season.
4. Find Your Florals
Whether it’s in the form of greenery or simple cut arrangements from the grocery store, plants always liven and brighten our homes for a spring refresh. You can focus on cut flowers, greenery from the yard in a bold vase or help detox your home with fresh potted plants.
If you’re like me and not a green thumb but want to air purifying power of a plant or two, start with succulents, snake, jade, or rubber plants as they’re easier to maintain, while still boosting some air filtering effects.
We’ve even got a fun hanging herb garden DIY to give you some edible greenery in your home while adding a fun way to display it.
5. Switch out Scents
With the changing of seasons, we like to mix up the scents in the home as well. Lighter, brighter and more floral to compliment the season, as well as candles that echo the color.
I also love to update scents in our home while adding in some natural cleansing, rejuvenating and relaxing effects of essential oils. Diffusers are the perfect way to make this happen. You can diffuse a single essential oil, use a blend you love or even create a mix of your own.
Here I shared our top 5 refreshing Summer diffuser recipes with essential oils.
6. Update Your Reads
Find a new coffee table book, magazine or something that inspires you! I love to display current books on my nightstand or on open shelving in my room since our coffee table is currently an ottoman that the kids like to lay and play on. There’s more than one reason updating your reads is a good idea, and it does more than just ways to refresh your home… it can inspire and encourage you in your own personal life as well!
From books that give you home or food inspiration to reads that strengthen your spirit or spur you in the direction of your dreams, there are so many great choices!
